I resonate with the pet peeve of "she/he" being used in place of "they/them" but I will also be contrarian and say that "they/them" being used singularly should be used in a case by case basis. If a character does not explicitly go by she/her or he/him pronouns, it would be more clear grammatically if the character is referred to by name since having the character be referred to in a group setting where multiple characters are mentioned adds confusion to the reader. (i.e. "Kris told Susie that they won the prize, but they were not happy about it." Does "they" refer to Kris, or does it refer to both Susie and Kris? With contextual clues you can assume it refers to Kris, but this is extra ambiguity that makes the sentence harder to read). Some of the dialogue in deltarune can get very confusing because I do not know if the dialogue is referring to a single person or a group of people. This especially get's more complicated with the introduction of other characters who do not go by conventional gendered pronouns. I don't have anything to comment regarding the identity aspect of gender neutral pronouns, this is just from a perspective of someone who has English as a second language and finds language hard lol.
